HinduPACT Launches Voter Registration Drive For Hindu Americans

WASHINGTON, DC – HinduPACT has designated September as American Hindu Voter Registration Month, launching a nationwide effort focused on voter registration, education and participation ahead of upcoming elections.

The initiative, led by HinduVote, a HinduPACT project, is being conducted in partnership with the American Hindu Coalition, HinduYuva and Vadtal Dham Shree Swami Narayan Hindu Temple of Houston. The groups are asking temples, community organizations, youth groups, professional networks and local Hindu associations to participate in voter registration and education activities.

The campaign also seeks to increase engagement between Hindu voters and candidates seeking public office. HinduVote said it will encourage candidates to explain their positions on issues included in its American Hindu Agenda 2026.

Among the issues listed by the organization are anti-Hindu hate, attacks on Hindu temples, the civic participation of religious institutions, merit-based college admissions, immigration provisions for documented dependent children who age out at 21, protection of religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, U.S.-India relations and environmental protection.

The effort comes as Hindu Americans represent a largely immigrant and highly educated voting population. Pew Research Center reported that 77% of U.S. Hindus were born outside the United States, while 70% of Hindus have at least a bachelor’s degree, compared with 35% of U.S. adults overall.

Pew also reported that about 48% of Indian Americans identify as Hindu and that 46% of Indian Americans, or about 2.2 million people, were eligible to vote in 2022.

HinduPACT officials said the September campaign is intended to encourage eligible Hindu Americans to register, participate in elections and engage candidates on issues affecting their communities.

“Participating in democracy is a fundamental right of every citizen, and it is incumbent upon every Hindu to participate,” Gaurang Desai said in a statement included in the campaign announcement.
