Bollywood Stars Gather For Rani Mukerji’s Mother’s Last Rites

MUMBAI-Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji’s mother, Krishna Mukerji, died on September 22 at the age of 75. Several of Rani’s close friends from the film industry attended her last rites at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu.

Shah Rukh Khan attended the funeral with his wife, Gauri Khan, amid heavy security. Filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Alia Bhatt were also among those who came to pay their last respects. Actor Anil Kapoor was also present, along with several other prominent members of the film fraternity.

The family confirmed Krishna Mukerji’s death earlier on September 22 and requested privacy from the media during the family’s time of grief.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Rani Mukerji’s mother Mrs Krishna Mukerji, 75, passed away this afternoon. The family is deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support, and respectfully requests privacy during this time of immense grief.”

Krishna Mukerji was a playback singer and was best known for lending her voice to the song ‘Idd Ke Din Gale Mil Le Raja’ from the 1982 film ‘Teesri Aankh’.

She was married to filmmaker Ram Mukerji, one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. Ram Mukerji was associated with films including ‘Hum Hindustani’ (1960) and ‘Leader’ (1964).

The couple had two children, actress Rani Mukerji and filmmaker-producer Raja Mukherjee.

Krishna Mukerji was a constant and strong presence in her daughter’s life. Rani had spoken publicly on several occasions about their close bond and had revealed that her mother encouraged her to pursue a career in films. (IANS)
