SHREWSBURY, MA – Apna Bazar, described as North America’s largest South Asian supermarket, opened in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, on October 22. The 70,000-square-foot store stocks more than 100,000 products.
Located at 539-571 Boston Turnpike, the supermarket carries South Asian and American groceries and includes a deli and meat counter and a full bakery.
Romy Selhi, owner and operator of Apna Bazar Farmers Market, said in March that the store would serve customers across Central Massachusetts, including Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and other Americans. He had been considering the property for more than a year.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Shrewsbury Select Board members Carlos Garcia and Anand Sharma, Doreen Goodrich from the office of Massachusetts State Sen. Michael Moore, and representatives from Governor Maura Healey’s office.
