Chuck Schumer Stops At Delhi’s Religious Sites

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, currently leading a bi-partisan delegation of Senators to New Delhi, took time to visit religious sites in India. In keeping with the diversity that marks Indian polity, he made stops at Sis Ganj Gurdwara where he deeply appreciated the Sikh faith’s “teaching of equality and service” and the 24-hour free kitchen and at the Jama Masjid where he spoke with the Imam’s son and learned about the “extensive history” of India’s Muslim community.

At the Gauri Shankar temple, he said he had the opportunity to “learn about Hindu deities, values, and rituals, and to make my own offering with flowers.”  Schumer also visited the Central Baptist Church where he spoke with the pastor and learned, “since Urdu was the language of the original inhabitants in Old Delhi, sermons and ceremonies are performed entirely in Urdu at the Church.”

The senate delegation also made a trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
