“Am I Allowed To Run Again?” Trump Asks. No, He Cannot.
MIAMI, FL – US President Donald Trump, during his remarks to GOP Members of Congress here on January 28, apparently joking about whether he could run for the next presidential election in 2028.
In a hopeful speech, Trump mentioned raising funds for future political campaigns, even after being inaugurated on January 20. “I have raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can’t use for myself. But I am not 100 per cent sure because I think I am not allowed to run again. Am I allowed to run again?” he asked
However, Trump cannot run for a third term or cancel the 2028 election. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Even if Trump attempted to challenge this, courts and election officials would almost certainly block him.
Trump further emphasized the inclusivity of the Republican Party under his leadership. “Under our leadership, the Republican Party has become the proud voice of hardworking American citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. We have become the party of the American Dream, wealth creation—not just for the rich,” he claimed.
Looking ahead, Trump encouraged Republicans to focus on solidifying their position. “If we do our job over the next 21 months, not only will House Republicans be reelected and expand our majority in 2026, but we will cement a national governing coalition that will preserve American freedom for generations to come,” he said.
