SANTA CLARA, CA — The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society has received the Outstanding Chapter Award for 2024, recognizing it as one of the top chapters globally. This award honors chapters that provide an exceptional and world-class experience to their members.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is an international professional organization focused on advancing technology and innovation for the benefit of society. The IEEE Computer Society, its largest technical society, specializes in computer science and engineering.
The chapter’s achievements are credited in large part to the leadership of its Chair, Dr. Vishnu S. Pendyala. Since joining the chapter’s Executive Committee as Vice Chair in 2019, then serving as Secretary in 2021, he has been the Chair since January 2022, having been re-elected each year.
Under Pendyala’s direction, the chapter introduced several new initiatives that increased member involvement and strengthened the community. These include the launch of Feedforward, a quarterly magazine, as well as popular online content such as an Ask Me Anything series and a podcast featuring industry experts.
To enhance technical recognition and visibility, the chapter established annual awards, initiated the International Conference on Applied Data Science, and sponsored a conference indexed by IEEE Xplore. Additionally, the chapter broadened its reach by live-streaming monthly events globally and building an active social media presence.
A key highlight is the chapter’s sponsorship of the BELLMAC-32 Microprocessor Milestone Event, planned for October 2025 at the Computer History Museum, celebrating a major milestone in computing history.
Pendyala is also a University Senator and faculty member in Applied Data Science at San Jose State University. He brings over 20 years of industry experience in Silicon Valley.
