Actor Challenges English Script Culture In Hindi Cinema
MUMBAI- Vineet Kumar Singh recently discussed the trend of Bollywood scripts being written in Roman characters despite the films being made in Hindi. The ‘Chhaava’ actor revealed that he specifically asks for his dialogues in the Devanagari script.
He pointed out a contradiction in the industry, noting that while Bollywood produces Hindi cinema, most of the actual production work is carried out in English. Singh shared that, on a personal level, he believes scripts should be written in Devanagari because the dialogues actors must perform are in Hindi.
He clarified that while everyone is free to make their own choices, it is a certainty that the industry makes movies in Hindi while functioning primarily in English.
This sentiment echoes concerns previously raised by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Speaking at a media event in 2022, the ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ actor argued that scripts should be written in Devanagari. He observed that even though directors and producers create Hindi films, they often prefer to communicate in English on set.
Siddiqui added that this linguistic preference extends to scriptwriters, costume designers, and production designers. He noted that this reliance on English among the crew can occasionally lead to confusion during the filmmaking process. (IANS)

This is a revelation! I hate to say that among other Bollywood idiosyncrasies this is probably the height of ludicrous!
