Grand Canyon Search Intensifies As Missing Hiker’s Backpack is Recovered

GRAND CANYON VILLAGE, AZ-A 26-year-old hiker remains missing in Grand Canyon National Park, as authorities seek to identify a person who turned in his backpack shortly after he was last seen.
Sandarsh Krishna was spotted on the Rim Trail between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point between 4 p.m. on April 27 and midnight on April 28, according to officials with the U.S. National Park Service.
A black backpack believed to belong to Krishna was turned in to hotel staff at Bright Angel Lodge around 7 a.m. on April 28, officials said in a May 1 update.
“Investigators are seeking to identify and speak with the individual who turned the backpack in to lodge staff, as they may have information relevant to the investigation,” National Park Service rangers said.
Authorities said the individual is not considered a suspect. An image released by rangers shows the person wearing a green jacket and black gloves.
Krishna is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, weighing about 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing athletic clothing.
