Abhishek Kumar On Breaking His Funny-Guy Image
MUMBAI-Television actor Abhishek Kumar, who stars in the streaming series ‘Ishq Dum Aur Idli Rasam’, says audience expectations can sometimes shape perceptions of an actor, adding that people often have a fixed idea of what someone should do when expectations are high.
Abhishek said one of the biggest challenges while working on the show was memorising the names of dishes featured in the story and delivering them naturally on screen.
Speaking about the experience, he said, “One of the toughest parts for me wasn’t the regular dialogues, they came quite easily. The real challenge was remembering all the dish names, especially the English ones.”
He added, “I would start studying them from the morning itself so that when the scene came up, I could recall them effortlessly and deliver them in a smooth flow. I always made sure I was prepared for those moments. But honestly, becoming an actor has always been my dream. Since childhood, I’ve wanted to be an actor.”
Reflecting on audience reactions to his performance, Abhishek said, “I’m glad people didn’t expect this from me, which is why they’re really surprised. When expectations are very high, people often have a fixed idea of what you should do.”
“But in my case, people knew me as someone who makes them laugh, so when they saw me handling a serious character, they were genuinely amazed. For me, that became a huge advantage.”
In ‘Ishq Dum Aur Idli Rasam’, Abhishek plays Arjun Thakur, a global chef-investor who joins a family-run South Indian restaurant. The series also stars actress Shiny Doshi as Meera Nair, the restaurant’s head chef. Produced by Balaji Studios, the show is streaming on Balaji Telefilms’ YouTube channel. (IANS)
