Amazon Web Services To Invest $8.2 Billion In Maharashtra
India-West News Desk
SEATTLE, WA – Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a major investment of approximately $8.2 billion in the Indian state of Maharashtra over the coming years. This investment is a key part of AWS’s global cloud expansion strategy and is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region and India at large.
The investment is projected to contribute an estimated $15.3 billion to India’s gross domestic product (GDP) and create more than 81,300 full-time jobs annually in the local data center supply chain by 2030. This commitment is part of AWS’s previously revealed plan to invest a total of $12.7 billion in cloud infrastructure across India by 2030, addressing the growing demand for cloud services across the country.
As India increases its efforts to establish local cloud data storage, the cloud services market is expected to see substantial growth. According to a report by International Data Corporation, India’s cloud market, valued at $8.3 billion in 2023, is projected to grow to $24.2 billion by 2028.
Currently, AWS operates two data centers in India—one in Mumbai, launched in 2016, and another in Hyderabad, which began operations in 2022.
Last year, Amazon also announced an additional $2 billion investment in India, further expanding its e-commerce operations in the country, Asia’s third-largest economy.
