Ann Coulter: Immigrants Like Vivek Should Wait To Be President

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON, DC – Veteran political commentator and author Ann Coulter defended her recent comments about former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, asserting that calling him an “Indian” wasn’t racist. Coulter made her remarks on “Dan Abrams Live” on May 16.

During the show, Coulter said that while she agreed with many of his political stances, she wouldn’t have voted for him because he’s an Indian. Ramaswamy, a self-made multi-millionaire who ran for the Republican presidential nomination, was born in Ohio to immigrants from India.

Ramaswamy responded to Coulter’s remarks, stating that he disagreed with her but respected her for speaking her mind. Coulter, in turn, reiterated her position, emphasizing that she believes immigrants should wait a few generations before seeking the presidency.

“It’s not racist,” Coulter clarified. “Blacks have been here longer than most whites. It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with being a citizen for at least three generations. I think that’s a good rule.”

She also argued that the requirement for a natural-born president, as intended by the founders, is crucial. Coulter pointed out that while she believes Ramaswamy could hold other high-ranking positions, such as secretary of state, Supreme Court justice, or governor, she thinks the presidency should be reserved for those whose families have been citizens for at least three generations.

In her discussion, Coulter cited Senator Ted Cruz as an example of someone who, in her view, does not meet the natural-born citizen requirement due to being born in Canada to a Cuban father and American mother.

  • I totally disagree with Ms. Coulter. She seems to have some private agenda in making these statements. Where does the requirement of three generations come from? If you are born in USA, you are natural born citizen of USA regardless of the origin or nationality of the parents. Besides what is gained by putting the requirement of three generations. What is learned by this requirement that is not gained by relevant education and experience. The US Constitution does not have this requirement and to superimpose some requirements not called for is an attack on the democratic society and should be allowed.

  • This is a good joke. When someone who is 3rd generation – then make it 4th generation, and then 5th generation, unless you are white then 1st generation is ok

  • Coulter would have kept her mouth shut if Vivek would have been an European immigrant. She is a racist of first kind. Indian Americans are making inroads in the American society. Get used to it!

Coulter can say whatever she wants to say because the US Constitution permits freedom of speech, but she cannot make arbitrary rules or tell immigrants when they can or cannot run for president. It’s crystal clear to me that she is not only racist but seems to be proud of being overtly racist. This is the price we are paying for four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, who has not only made racism and political incorrectness fashionable once again, but also encouraged racist people to be openly racist. I hope the Coulter incident would dissuade Indian Americans to vote for Trump in November 2024.
