WASHINGTON, DC – Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee is among 23 economists endorsing Vice President Harris’s economic vision, calling it “vastly better” than former President Trump’s. In an open letter, Banerjee and his peers wrote that Harris’s economic agenda “will improve our nation’s health, investment, sustainability, resilience, employment opportunities, and fairness.” Banerjee, currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at MIT, won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for their work on alleviating global poverty.
The economists criticized Trump’s economic proposals, particularly his plans to raise tariffs. “His policies, including high tariffs even on goods from our friends and allies and regressive tax cuts for corporations and individuals, will lead to higher prices, larger deficits, and greater inequality,” the letter stated.
While neither Harris nor Trump has fully unveiled their economic plans, Harris has put forward key initiatives, including combating price gouging, supporting small businesses, and offering incentives for first-time homebuyers. In contrast, Trump’s proposals include imposing broad tariffs on imports and introducing new tax cuts, which could substantially increase the U.S. deficit, according to various analyses.
The letter also touched on U.S. debt levels, which ballooned during the pandemic under both Trump and President Biden. The economists noted that while pandemic-era stimulus contributed to inflation, “inflation has come down without a recession,” which they hailed as a significant achievement for the Biden administration.

Kamala Harris’ economic agenda is to lift all people including the middle class earning less than $450,000 annually. It will help most businesses, especially small businesses but not mega-corporations that are not paying a fair share of taxes like you and me. This agenda is unlike the Trump economic policy of helping big businesses and corporations. I am certain Trump does not understand any economic principles including his own.

The USA has been built on Capitalism, the basis for Trump’s policies. Are we better off today than four years ago? Hell No. The cost of living and inflation makes the difference. No economist is challenging Biden-Harris economic policies are responsible for high inflation. Kamala Harris follows Senator Sanders and believes in Socialism.
Trump is the first American President who branded India the closest ally on a par with the U.K. He has offered to India all American technologies and 100% transfer. Trump and Modi has developed very close and most productive relationship. India will benefit immensely by Trump’s Presidency.

Why don’t you great economists also nominate her for a Nobel prize award?

Economists are nominated for the Nobel Prize after some tangible results are achieved because of their successful plans. However, no one is ever nominated and declared a winner for a prize for having a “concept of a plan,” whatever that means.
