BOSTON, MA – Despite unseasonably cold weather, a large crowd gathered for a vibrant Holi celebration organized by the India Society of Worcester (ISW). Families, performers, and visitors turned out in significant numbers, with many staying for the duration of the program to enjoy live percussion, dance performances, and the traditional “playing of colors.” The event offered a shared experience for both the Indian diaspora and the broader public.
The ISW Symphony Dhol-Tasha-Lezim group led the program with high-energy drumming, bringing together experienced members and first-time participants. The performance marked a significant milestone for the ensemble, which has now completed 40 public appearances in under five years. The stage also featured a diverse range of talent, including children’s group presentations, classical Kathak dance, and traditional Lavani performances.

“What an incredible celebration, especially in such weather,” said volunteer Prasanna Pawar. “Despite the cold, so many people gathered and stayed from start to finish. It was truly electrifying.” Vishakha Khamankar echoed this sentiment, noting that the community continues to grow stronger and larger with every event.
During the festivities, ISW General Secretary Kamlesh Khilnani outlined the organization’s mission to promote Indian culture and engagement across New England. Jessy Haggard, representing the host venue, acknowledged the successful collaboration, describing the drums and colors as an amazing representation of the holiday.
The event was supported by more than 50 volunteers and performers who managed programming and logistics.
Founded in 1963, the India Society of Worcester is a volunteer-run organization.
