NEW YORK, NY (ANI)- Bringing Punjabi pride and regal flair to one of fashion’s most celebrated nights, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh made a striking debut at the 2025 Met Gala, proudly donning a turban and traditional attire.

In a tribute to Sir Bhupinder Singh, the early 20th-century Maharaja of Patiala, Dosanjh and his team initially sought to borrow the monarch’s legendary Cartier necklace—commissioned in 1928 and encrusted with over 1,000 carats of diamonds—for the occasion. However, as reported by The New York Times, the request was declined, as the necklace remains preserved in a museum collection.

Stylist Abhilasha Devnani revealed that the team collaborated with renowned Indian jeweler Golecha to recreate elements inspired by the Maharaja’s royal treasures. The ensemble included a layered diamond necklace, an ornate turban brooch, and a lion-headed, jewel-studded kirpan, adding both cultural gravitas and visual grandeur.

Designed by Prabal Gurung, Dosanjh’s look featured a kurta, tehmat, and cape adorned with Punjabi script—each detail celebrating his heritage. Hours after his appearance, Dosanjh expressed his gratitude to Gurung, Anna Wintour, Cartier, Golecha Jewels, and Devnani for bringing the vision to life.

Making history as the first turbaned Indian artist to walk the Met Gala red carpet, Diljit Dosanjh honored his roots with elegance was the social media consensu.
