ELK GROVE, CA — The City of Elk Grove came alive with light and celebration on October 13, as hundreds gathered at District 56 for the 6th annual Diwali Festival. Hosted by USA Sanatan in partnership with the City of Elk Grove Diversity & Inclusion Commission, the free community event brought together residents of all backgrounds for an evening of culture, color, and connection.
The festival featured vibrant cultural performances, a dazzling fashion show, and an interfaith lamp-lighting ceremony that embodied the spirit of Diwali — the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Guests were treated to a complimentary dinner and traditional Indian sweets as they celebrated the festival of lights with family and friends.
“This festival celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil,” said Bhavin Parikh, the event’s lead organizer. “It’s a joy to see our community come together in such a meaningful way.”

Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen highlighted the city’s strong sense of inclusion and diversity, saying, “We are one of the most diverse cities in the United States. We are a city that is welcome to all.” Attendees echoed her words, describing the event as “beautiful” and “one of my favorites.”
This year’s celebration carried added significance following Governor Gavin Newsom’s proclamation recognizing Diwali as an official state holiday in California.
