Gina Raimondo Visit To India Boosts India – US Tech Ties

NEW DELHI, (IANS) – India-US bilateral goods and services trade has nearly doubled since 2014, surpassing $191 billion recorded in 2022. This was acknowledged by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on March 10 during the India-US Commercial Dialogue meeting.

Raimondo attended the meeting before returning home for the US. She had arrived in India on March 7 at the invitation of the Indian government.

Goyal and Raimondo welcomed the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology. The two ministers also noted India’s interest in partnering with the US in developing a secure pharmaceutical manufacturing base and diversifying supply chains for critical and strategic minerals (including rare earths).

One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the signing of an MoU on establishing a semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership.

Both the ministers recognized that small businesses and entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of the US and Indian economies and there is a need to facilitate collaboration between the SMEs of the two countries and to foster innovation ecosystems that facilitate their post-pandemic economic recovery and growth.

In this context, both sides announced the launch of a new working group on talent, innovation, and inclusive growth under the Commercial Dialogue.

This will further the cooperation on start-ups, SMEs, skill development and entrepreneurship, including in digital and emergent technologies.

  • some people always like to write negative and pathetic comments. I used to work in semiconductor industry in late 70’s and 80’s . That time korea ,taiwan and china were big zero in semiconductor. a lot of Indians were doing well in semiconductor at IBM ,ti and in silicon valleys. several times my plant manager used to ask me when is India going to help us setup assembly and manufacturing plant. the policy of nehru and entire gandhi clan was to keep India poor and illiterate. They never knew how the jobs are created like brahmin priest living rich while everyone else poor. look all these countries were poor and look where they are today. just having investment is not a crime. The communist philosophy is only appreciated by selfish people like a k sen enjoying both the benefits of us and india and still complaining. They want good for their family and themselves and trash for everyone else.
