Greener Cities, Healthier Lives: Dia Mirza’s Biodiversity Push
MUMBAI (IANS) – Actor and environmental advocate Dia Mirza has called for replicating urban green spaces like “The Nest” across cities, emphasizing their role in children’s development and ecological restoration.
Sharing visuals of a recent visit to the Mumbai Park, Mirza praised the transformation of The Nest into a biodiversity hotspot through the inclusion of native plant species. She described the experience as a “exploration of magical green spaces” and highlighted the health and developmental benefits of regular interaction with nature, such as improved immunity and emotional grounding in children.
“Our children thrive in nature,” Mirza wrote in an Instagram post, noting that The Nest is “a great example of how a park can be converted into a biodiversity hotspot simply by mindfully introducing more native species.” She added that the project is a “prototype that can be easily replicated across Mumbai and India.”
The actor, known for her continued environmental advocacy, had earlier marked World Environment Day by lauding Professor Chetan Singh Solanki— “The Solar Man of India”—for his work on the Finite Earth Movement. She highlighted his ongoing mission to promote sustainable living and inspire climate responsibility.
Citing alarming data from the Global Footprint Network, Mirza reiterated the urgency of environmental action, warning that “humanity is consuming natural resources 1.7 times faster than Earth can regenerate.”
