Indian Accused Of Killing Nijjar Appears In Court

OTTAWA (ANI) – Amandeep Singh, a 22-year-old suspect implicated in the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, made a virtual appearance before a Surrey court in Canada on May 15.

The court session, marred by technical delays, ended with Singh being ordered to reappear alongside three co-accused on May 21. Singh, who was already in the custody of Peel Regional Police in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges, appeared remotely for the proceedings.

Nijjar, aged 45, was fatally shot outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.

Amandeep Singh was formally charged on May 11 with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. These charges mirrored those announced against three other individuals: Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, all in their 20s.

The four accused are believed to be members of a hit squad allegedly tasked by the government of India to carry out Nijjar’s assassination, a case that has significantly strained relations between India and Canada.
