WASHINGTON, DC – In the wake of the Supreme Court rulings on gun control and abortion, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) is calling on President Joe Biden to support term limits for Supreme Court justices. Last year, he had reintroduced and co-sponsored a bill that would establish 18-year term limits on Supreme Court justices after his bill’s passage.

“Today’s majority is not comprised of impartial justices,” he said at a meeting in Reno, NV, “They are far-right activist justices.” He tweeted, “There is nothing democratic about six individuals stripping the American people of fundamental freedoms. The highest court in the land should not have lifetime appointments.”

Media reports say that Khanna had also said in his NV speech, “Nine unelected, elite lawyers with fancy degrees do not have the final word on interpreting the Constitution. … The American people get to decide what the Constitution means. In a democracy, we the people get to decide what are fundamental rights and freedoms.”

Another tweet from the Congressman said, “It’s time for Democrats that control the House, Senate, and Presidency to abolish the filibuster, codify Roe v. Wade, and end lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court.”

His strong remarks are a reflection of many Democratic elected officials and the calls for term limits and rejigging of the court is gaining ground even amongst the voting public.

This also comes in the background of President Biden’s Supreme Court commission indicating strong interest in imposing terms limits on justices, though Biden has himself has not commented on the report.

  • It is high time for Ro Khanna to retire from corrupt politics and may be he should spent some time at Isha Foundation in Coimbatore and work on saving soil. This may enlighten him and achieve bliss..

  • It is really a sad day in the United States when the country’s highest court has been politicized. I fully support term limits. I am sure many Americans are with me on this. Let us do it!
