WASHINGTON, DC – In a landmark event, the White House, in collaboration with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, convened The White House Forum on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders at The George Washington University on May 3. This forum marked the commencement of Asian American and NHPI Heritage Month, echoing the theme ‘Visible Together.’

The day-long gathering witnessed an unprecedented turnout, with over 1,300 members of the Asian American and NHPI communities from across more than two dozen states and U.S. territories. Representing one of the largest in-person events hosted by the Biden-Harris Administration to commemorate AA and NHPI Heritage Month, the forum garnered significant attention, amassing over 253,000 views via livestream across various White House-branded YouTube and social media platforms.

High-ranking leaders of the Biden-Harris Administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris, the first South Asian American to hold the office of Vice President, paid homage to the rich histories and cultures of Asian American and NHPI communities.

Vice President Harris delivered an empowering message to attendees, acknowledging the challenges they may face as trailblazers in various spaces. “Walk in with your chin up, shoulders back knowing that you are representing the voices of so many people who are proud that you’re in that room,” Harris emphasized. She encouraged resilience in the face of adversity, stating, “We are all in that room with you. You are not walking in that room alone.”

Addressing the audience, Harris stressed the importance of perseverance in the face of closed doors, remarking, “Sometimes they won’t. And then you need to kick that f——— door down.” Known for her decorum, Harris swiftly apologized for her language, prompting laughter from the audience. Swearing in public by politicians is not uncommon and many have been caught on a hot microphone. In this case, people told the media, that Harris was emphasizing a point and it all was kosher.

Among the attendees were actress Poorna Jagannathan, musician Sonny Singh, and various administration officials.

  • She has been giggling her way out of tough questions. Swearing perhaps is her new style of the inability to gather thoughts.

    • Would you rather see a Chinese American lady in her place?

      • There is nothing wrong with a Chinese American lady. If the Chinese American or any other lady is given the job of border security and she does it, instead of Kamala who let nearly 10 million illegals enter the country, then for sure I would much rather like to see her in Kamala’s place. Any please don’t let yourself be fooled thinking that Kamala feels as an Indian American. She identifies herself as a woman of color, which mainly stands for Black American woman.

  • I really appreciate her. It’s puzzling why some Indians are critical. She’s tough and intelligent, and if Biden supports her, that’s endorsement enough for me. We need to be realistic about our options.

  • Hi Sanjit. what does Harris has done in last four years, or infact all her life. F……ing nothing. is she intelligent? about what? People like Biden and Harris had ruined this country. DEI is going to destroy this country as you have seen in India with a backward class agenda what congress had done in last 60 plus years. It ruined the country. Thanks to Modi who is like a Trump; who has done a great job. A leader who is a tough but fair for the country and the people of the country.

  • Sure Harris!
Kick that door down. But you spread your legs and your mother said it was OK if it helped your career. So shameful!

It’s unfortunate that Harris dropped the “F-Bomb” while delivering an empowering message because now the “F” word will become the talk of the town, overshadowing the real message. Because of the perennial and unfortunate double standard, men can get away with foul language more than women can. I also didn’t like the “kick the door down” phrase. I know it’s a metaphor but can be easily misinterpreted as an advice to resort to violence when one cannot have one’s way. I don’t think Harris meant to do that. I can understand advising people to resort to lawsuits if they are unfairly discriminated against. I suspect this is what she meant. Asian Americans tend to be too submissive, keep a low profile, and are reluctant to play hard ball. Sometimes one has no choice but to play hard ball, but without breaking any laws.

Harris is very smart and knowledgeable but being a VP she has no choice but to keep a low profile. Because of Biden’s age, people expected more from her than they would normally expect from a VP. Lately, I have noticed that she is trying to change her image and become more visible in the public. On the abortion issue, for example, being a woman, she can speak with more conviction than a man can, therefore, I am glad that she has been exposing the Republican weakness on the abortion issue. She can do the same and address issues on which Democrats have an edge over the Republicans, such as saving the democracy, climate change, and economy.
