POMONA, CA- Washington Freedom claimed a six-wicket victory over the LA Knight Riders in the opening match of the Pomona leg, chasing 109 in 17.1 overs on a challenging surface. Saurabh Netravalkar (3/16) and Mitchell Owen (3/19) spearheaded the bowling effort to bowl LAKR out for 108.

LAKR struggled to build momentum after opting to bat first. Despite a brisk 30 off 19 balls from Rovman Powell and 25 from Colin Munro, the batting lineup failed to capitalize. Ben Dwarshuis (2/12) and Ian Holland (2/25) provided strong support as LAKR were dismissed for their third consecutive below-par total.

The chase began shakily for Washington Freedom, with Sunil Narine (2/25) reducing them to 14/2. Mark Chapman steadied the innings with 34 before Steven Smith anchored the chase, remaining unbeaten on 40 off 44 balls to guide his side home with 17 balls to spare.

The result raises further concerns over LAKR’s batting as the tournament enters its final stages, with the team now having posted three consecutive modest totals.

Brief scores: LA Knight Riders 108 (Powell 30, Munro 25; Netravalkar 3/16, Owen 3/19, Dwarshuis 2/12) lost to Washington Freedom 110/4 (Smith 40*, Chapman 34; Narine 2/25) by 6 wickets.
