Lilly’s Singh’s Debut Film To Premiere At SXSW

AUSTIN, TX — The laughter-filled extravaganza that is Variety’s annual Power of Comedy event returns to SXSW at ACL Live on March 8. The star-studded lineup of honorees includes Samantha Bee, John Leguizamo, Nick Kroll, Lilly Singh, Andrew Rannells, Hannah Einbinder, Pamela Adlon, Jaboukie Young-White, Robbie Praw, and Cazzie David.
Among the luminaries to be celebrated, Lilly Singh stands out as a trailblazer in the world of comedy. The entertainer will be honored with the inaugural Comedy Crossover Award, recognizing her remarkable journey from YouTube creator to TV host and now an accomplished actor.
Singh’s evolution is now with her upcoming role as the co-writer, producer, and star of the comedy film “Doin’ It,” set to premiere at SXSW. The film, a humorous exploration of a 30-year-old Indian-American virgin teaching high school Sex Ed, promises to tickle the audience’s funny bone while also showcasing Singh’s versatility as a storyteller.
The film is backed by Anita Verma-Lallian, the founder of Arizona’s groundbreaking film production company, Camelback Productions.
Box Office Guru Media is set to present an engaging panel at Canada House here, on March 11. The panel will delve into the expanding footprint of South Asians in the North American film industry, exploring challenges, recent gains, and strategies to sustain the momentum. Gitesh Pandya and Rohi Mirza Pandya from Box Office Guru Media will lead the discussion, accompanied by Lilly Singh and Anita Verma Lallian. The session will be introduced by bestselling author and 10x SXSW Featured speaker Rohit Bhargava.
