Man Rescued From CA Lake But Dies In Hospital

FRESNO, CA (IANS) – A 21-year-old man, Hashpreet Singh, lost his life on July 16, after being rescued from Millerton Lake, here.

Hashpreet, who was in the US on a student visa, was enjoying a leisurely outing with his wife of two months, when the tragedy unfolded.

The incident was reported to lifeguards around 6 p.m. near Boat Ramp 3 on the Fresno County side of the lake. Due to the murky water, the lifeguards faced challenges in visibility and conducted a thorough grid search.

Eventually, Hashpreet was found about 15 yards offshore in an area that used to be a parking lot but was submerged under the high-water levels, as reported by Fox26 News.

Tragically, Singh was not wearing a life jacket and had no knowledge of swimming, as confirmed by a park ranger. He was immediately airlifted to the Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Hashpreet’s father-in-law, Rocky Barredo has initiated a GoFundMe account to seek assistance with medical expenses and the repatriation of Hashpreet’s body to India.

Barredo recounted the fateful day, “My daughter works long hours and doesn’t get many days off. So, on the first day off, they decided to go to Millerton Lake.”

Describing Hashpreet as a “loving son-in-law and an amazing husband,” Barredo shared on the fundraiser page that Hashpreet had been in the US on a student visa and had married his daughter two months ago.
