NEW YORK, NY – In a recent interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Ohio senator J.D. Vance sidestepped direct questions about far-right figure Laura Loomer’s racist comments targeting Vice President Kamala Harris, despite being married to Usha Vance, an Indian American.
The controversy centers around Loomer’s statement that Harris’s presence in the White House would make it “smell like curry,” a remark widely condemned as racist.
When asked by interviewer Kristen Welker for his thoughts on Loomer’s remarks, particularly in light of his wife’s Indian heritage, Vance avoided a clear condemnation. Instead, he pivoted to discuss unrelated conspiracy theories, including a claim about Haitian migrants in Ohio.
“I make a mean chicken curry,” Vance said, downplaying Loomer’s comment as merely a matter of “dietary preferences.” Although he noted that he disagreed with Loomer’s statement, Vance framed the issue as insignificant, not racist rhetoric.
