Muslim Group Endorses Harris, Says Trump Bigger Danger

WASHINGTON, DC (REUTERS) – The U.S. Muslim advocacy group Emgage Action on September 25 endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris despite its ongoing concern over the war in Gaza, saying former President Donald Trump posed a greater danger with his promise to reinstate travel restrictions affecting majority-Muslim countries.

The endorsement comes as the 2024 race between Harris and Trump remains very tight ahead of the November 5 election. Arab American and Muslim voters may play a decisive role in the outcome in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and other battleground states. These voters helped President Joe Biden defeat Trump in 2020 by thousands of votes.

Many Muslim groups, including Emgage Action, have criticized the Biden administration, where Harris serves as vice president, for its support of Israel’s war in Gaza

“While we do not agree with all of Harris’ policies, particularly on the war on Gaza, we are approaching this election with both pragmatism and conviction,” Emgage CEO Wa’el Alzayat said in a statement, adding it sought to provide “honest guidance to our voters regarding the difficult choice they confront at the ballot box.”

Emgage Action, which endorsed Biden in 2020, said it mobilized 1 million Muslim voters in that election. The group said the Harris endorsement reflects a “responsibility to defeat Trump and defend the community against what would be a return to Islamophobic and other harmful policies.”

Trump’s campaign had no immediate comment. His campaign has held dozens of events with Arab Americans and Muslims in swing states.

Trump has said he will reinstate the “travel ban” that restricts entry into the United States of people from a list of largely Muslim-dominant countries. Biden rolled back the ban shortly after taking office in 2021.

The Harris campaign welcomed the endorsement a week after another big voting bloc, the pro-Palestinian grassroots organization Uncommitted National Movement, said it would not endorse Harris, Trump or a third-party candidate.

Harris has already won the backing of smaller Muslim groups, including the Black Muslim Leadership Council Fund and the American Muslim Democratic Caucus.

  • While I am deeply frustrated with the Biden-Harris administration’s unconditional support for the genocide of innocent people in Gaza, Lebanon, and neighboring regions, I still feel compelled to vote for the Harris ticket to prevent a convicted criminal from once again assuming the presidency.

  • Kudos to the group for the sensible act. Wish the Michigander extremists cool down their head and use their brain instead of raw emotion. Staying home or voting for xenophobic con Don will only lead to their own disaster. Life won’t be rosy after con Don’s win since many will be extradited and some will be in prison . Well, it is their choice.

  • Harris lies like Trump
Many people who will vote for Kamala Harris don’t know that she too lies like Trump in her campaign speeches and TV ads. However, her lies are subtle and not crude. Here are examples of Kamala’s lies:
    (1) Kamala as president will not have power to pass laws about abortions, since Supreme Court decided that only States can pass laws whether to allow or restrict abortions.
    (2) Inflation is caused by 10 million illegal immigrants who came through Southern border during Biden presidency drained the resources.
    (3) President has no authority to prosecute price gouging, since employers passed price increases to wage increases; hence the courts will dismiss lawsuits.
    (4) If Kamala gives away $25,000 to first time home buyers, the price will not go down because sellers will raise prices by that amount. Where the money will come from?
    (5) The Courts have struck down Biden’s executive orders for student loan forgiveness.
    (6) The courts have also struck down amnesty to children of illegal immigrants.
    (7) Kamala’s attack on Project 2025 is rebutted by many experts that it is not centered on Trump.
    (8) Many people believe that Trump will end Ukraine war and not Kamala.
    (9) President represents all the people and not his/her affiliation to a party.
    (10) Americans struggle to pay bills and insurance premiums. Therefore $5000 tax credit will not go long way. Congress may not pass the law.
    (11) No matter what a candidate promises about tax cuts, taxes are bound to go up to pay for expenses.
