Netanyahu’s Campaign Billboard Likens Mamdani To Hezbollah, Iran Leaders

NEW YORK, NY- New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been featured alongside the leaders of Iran, Turkey and Hezbollah on a campaign billboard in central Tel Aviv, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turns his attacks on the New York mayor into an issue in Israel’s election campaign.
The billboard, put up by Netanyahu’s party, The Guardian reported, shows Mamdani alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem.
Netanyahu himself amplified the message on August 16, posting a photograph of the billboard on social media along with a video of Mamdani calling him a ‘war criminal.’
Netanyahu has accused Mamdani of ‘fomenting hate’ and turning different religious groups against one another in New York City. He has also warned that progressive Democrats associated with Mamdani are threatening what was once bipartisan political support for Israel in the United States.
But Netanyahu’s criticism of Mamdani comes against a backdrop that complicates his argument about the New York mayor’s standing among American Jews. Recent polling has found that Mamdani is more popular among American Jews than Netanyahu, despite Mamdani’s sharp criticism of Israel and Netanyahu.
