MIAMISBURG – State Senator Niraj Antani has concluded his term in the Ohio Senate, marking the end of a decade-long career in the Ohio General Assembly. Antani, first elected as a State Representative in 2014 at age 23, served six years in the Ohio House before being elected to the Senate in 2020. He is the first Indian American and Hindu American to serve in the Ohio Senate and the youngest Hindu and Indian American elected to state or federal office in U.S. history.
Niraj Antani, a Republican, did not seek re-election to the Senate after an unsuccessful 2024 congressional bid. Reflecting on his tenure, he thanked his constituents and supporters, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the American Dream for Ohioans.
During his legislative career, Niraj Antani focused on healthcare, education, and regional economic development. He blocked legislation affecting healthcare employers such as Premier Health, Kettering Health, and Caresource, protecting thousands of jobs, a press release said. He secured increased funding for Ohio’s community colleges, including Sinclair Community College, and supported expansions at institutions like Dayton History’s Carillon Park. He also increased Montgomery County’s share of the state capital budget, benefiting regional landmarks like the Dayton Art Institute and Boonshoft Museum.
Niraj Antani served on several legislative committees, including as Vice-Chair of the Senate Health Committee.
At 33, Niraj Antani, a graduate of Ohio State University and Miamisburg High School, said in the press statement that he will announce his future endeavors soon.
