Raghuram Rajan: ED A Threat To Democracy
JAIPUR, (IANS) – Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said on February 1 that unemployment is “increasing rapidly” in India and the employment graph “has fallen in the last ten years”.
He made the remarks during a press conference at the 17th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival which started here on February 1.
Rajan also expressed his displeasure over the actions being taken against Opposition leaders by the Enforcement Directorate in different states. “This is a threat to Indian democracy. Everything will not be achieved just by putting the Opposition in jail… This matter is not just for politicians but for all of us. Activating ED before elections is not a good thing.”
The former RBI Governor also underlined the need for reform in the education system. He said: “…There should be improvement in the education system not only in private but also in government schools.”
Rajan further said that there are “two Indias in our country,” and, “There is one which is moving faster than China while in the other, 80 crore people have to be given food packets. We have to focus on skill, education, and the medical sector.”

Raghuram Rajan is a disgrace to the IITs. He has completely mortgaged his superlative mind to anti-Indian and anti-Hindu forces. A lot of IITIans unfortunately have this problem, even though there are exceptions like me. This man has zero clue that enthusiasm and self-assurance are what build a nation, not constant criticism and political poison. I am so very glad that he is nowhere near the PM. India does not need pseudo-whites like him. You know what Mao did with people like him? Gave them shovels and sent them to dig ditches.

In a Democratic society, there is a right to freedom of speech enjoyed by the media as well as the politicians and the general public, irrespective of which party is in power. So, my concern is not that Rajan pointed out India’s problems that bother him. My concern is, “Is what he says a truthful statement or not?” So far, I have not seen anyone saying that what Rajan says is wrong.
