Rift In BJP Over Support For Trump Event?

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON, DC – A rift has emerged within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) between Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of the party’s foreign affairs department, and Vijay Jolly, former convenor of its foreign cell, over an upcoming event supporting Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election, The Print reported.

The controversy centers around an online event scheduled for October 12, organized by Jolly’s NGO, the Delhi Study Group, featuring Shalabh Kumar, chairperson of the Republican Hindu Coalition, as a speaker.

Chauthaiwale publicly distanced the BJP from the event, telling The Print on October 9 that the party had “nothing to do” with the program and stressing that the U.S. elections are an “internal matter” for America. He added that the BJP does not endorse any U.S. political candidate.

In response, Jolly defended his involvement, asserting that his support for Trump was personal and not linked to the BJP. He referred to Trump as a “global hero” with a strong relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized the Republican Party’s pro-India stance. Jolly added that he didn’t need anyone’s approval for his actions, underscoring his long-standing affiliation with the BJP, The Print said.

Jolly, a senior Delhi BJP leader acknowledged his ongoing support for Trump, he maintained that his activities were conducted through his NGO, separate from the BJP. He pointed out that he had recently visited several U.S. cities, including Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C., to meet with Indian diaspora organizations in an effort to mobilize support for Trump.

The internal BJP dispute reflects broader tensions about the party’s role in international political dynamics, particularly regarding the U.S. elections. According to a source within the Delhi BJP unit, Chauthaiwale’s leadership has sought to centralize control over the party’s foreign outreach, limiting the activities of figures like Jolly who were previously involved in such efforts, the media outlet suggested.

This disagreement surfaces against the backdrop of Modi’s recent U.S. visit, where he avoided public meetings with either U.S. presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris or Trump.

  • These Indians in USA must understand that they can support who they want as Americans. And support who they want as Indians.

As far as BJP supporters in USA, they have a right to chose who they want in the USA.

I am sure Modi’s position is clear on USA. He supports all parties of the USA that support India.
