WASHINGTON, D.C– Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) is making a push to re-engage Elon Musk with the Democratic Party following the Tesla CEO’s highly publicized split with President Donald Trump.

According to reports, Khanna recently reached out to one of Musk’s senior advisors as tensions between Musk and Trump escalated — a move that signals the congressman’s strategic interest in redirecting Musk’s considerable influence away from the GOP.

“Having Elon speak out against irrational tariff policies, the deficit-exploding Trump tax bill, and the anti-science, anti-immigrant agenda could help curb Trump’s unconstitutional administration,” Khanna told journalist Dave Weigel. “I look forward to Elon turning his fire on MAGA Republicans instead of Democrats in 2026.”

Khanna’s outreach marks a notable shift in tone from the broader progressive wing, which has frequently criticized Musk’s social media provocations and political drift toward the right. The congressman from Silicon Valley and who has engaged with Musk in the past, appears to be betting that Musk’s break with Trump creates an opening to pull him back from MAGA politics.
