Ro Khanna: US Was With India When China Invaded India, Not Russia

WASHINGTON, DC – California Congressman Ro Khanna has said that it is time for India to be “condemning” Russian President Vladimir Putin for the invasion and war Ukraine and India should refrain from getting oil from his country.

In a television interview with Fox News, the Indian American Congressman in reply to a question said, “We ought to rally the world to isolate Putin.” He added, “First India should condemn Putin in the UN for the blatant human rights violations. Second, they need to realize, they have to pick sides.”

“We, the United States, were with them when China invaded India. Putin wasn’t there. And it’s time for them to buy weapons from the United States, not Russia. We’ve got to look at how we can facilitate that and make that easier. We need India as an ally ultimately to contain China,” Khanna said.

Khanna is the vice chair of the US India Caucus, the largest country-specific caucus in the House of Representatives.

In recent weeks, several top American Senators have expressed deep disappointment over India’s position on the Ukrainian crisis. This includes Senate John Cornyn, Republican co-chair of the Senate India Caucus and Indian American Congressman Dr Ami Bera.

  • US was with Pakistan when Pakistan had a war with India. Russia saved India from imminent disaster. Please read your history before commenting on China war support that was minimal to insignificant compared to the other ones.

I am not taking sides of US or India but one needs to get their history right before making statements especially for a well reputed fellow Indian Congressman that I do support.

  • Mr. Khanna, as a representative of the US government, is supposed to watch for the interest of the United States. Similarly, India has to make decisions based on what she thinks is in the interest of India.
