NEW YORK, NY – In a recent interview with CNN on April 22 in Moscow, renowned Russian painter Nikas Safronov unveiled the portrait gifted by President Vladimir Putin to U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year.

The dramatic artwork, commissioned by the Kremlin, portrays Trump with his fist raised defiantly in the moments following the 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

Safronov said the painting was meant to reflect resilience and national unity. “I wanted to capture his courage—the blood, the scar, the moment he stood tall despite danger. It wasn’t just about survival; it was a message of strength and patriotism,” he explained.

The gift, sent in March, was confirmed by Trump ally and envoy Steve Witkoff during a conversation with Tucker Carlson. Witkoff described the portrait as “deeply moving,” adding, “It was a powerful and gracious gesture. The president was clearly very touched.”

Safronov revealed he declined payment for the piece, sensing its larger diplomatic implications. “As I worked on it, I began to believe it could serve as a bridge between nations,” he said. “That’s why I couldn’t accept money—I knew this was more than just art.”
