Sameer Anjaan Found Writing For A.R. Rahman ‘Difficult’

MUMBAI-Veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan has said he found it difficult to write for Oscar and Grammy-winning music composer A. R. Rahman, recalling his experience of working on the 2002 film ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’.

Sameer recently appeared on film trade expert Komal Nahta’s ‘Game Changers: The Music Series’ podcast, where he spoke about his career and his collaboration with Rahman.

“I found it difficult to write for A.R. Rahman. I have only worked with him on one movie, ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’. If you listen to the songs, you’ll understand how difficult they were to write,” Sameer said.

He said some of the lyrics were based on the original words of the ‘Shaheeds’, making the process of reimagining and writing them particularly challenging.

“The movie has become a legendary film, and there were some lines taken from the original words of the ‘Shaheeds’. Reimagining and writing them was very difficult for me. It was a fun memory,” he said.

Sameer, a Guinness World Record holder for writing the highest number of film songs, is among Hindi cinema’s most prolific lyricists. He rose to prominence in the 1990s and has received several honors, including Filmfare Awards, for his work.
