SAN RAMON, CA  – San Ramon Councilmember Sabina Zafar launched her campaign for Mayor of San Ramon with supporters at a local restaurant here on July 26.

“Open and inclusive governance is the cornerstone of my public service,” said Zafar. “Since joining the city council, more residents are engaged in the decisions we make, strengthening the fabric of our community.  As Mayor, I want to build on this community engagement, do city business in new ways and continue to provide the level of service you expect.”

In 2018, Zafar became the first Asian American elected to San Ramon’s city council where a majority of residents are of Asian descent.  In 2020, she was unanimously picked by the chamber to be Vice-Mayor.

A press release noted that prior to joining the city council, Zafar served on the City of San Ramon Transportation Advisory Committee, the Board for San Ramon American Association of University Women, and the Board of Bishop Ranch Intelligence Innovation Accelerator as a mentor for early-stage startups; and, she has been a member of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs and the San Ramon Dougherty Valley Rotary Club.

Her campaign’s platform includes focus on education and safety.

Zafar graduated in 2001 from the University of South Alabama’s USA’s School of Computing with a degree in Information Systems. She is a Technology Executive at Oracle. She raised her two children in San Ramon where they attended local public schools.  Her son is now working as a data science engineer and her daughter is at New York University.
