Shashi Tharoor To Headline JLF Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA – Shashi Tharoor will be among the featured speakers at a Jaipur Literature Festival Los Angeles event examining the changing global balance of power and the evolving role of the United States.

The program, titled “What is the New World Order?”, will take place September 15 at the ASU California Center Broadway, here. It is being presented as a preview of the 2027 Jaipur Literature Festival Los Angeles, a planned weeklong international edition of the literary festival.

Tharoor, an author himself and a four term Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, will take part in a keynote conversation with Kal Raustiala, director of the UCLA Ronald W. Burkle Center for International Relations.

The discussion will look at how the United States is reassessing its role in global affairs as it marks 250 years of independence. Topics will include the country’s changing approach to free trade, global health, climate regulation, democracy and international peace, as well as what shifts in U.S. influence could mean for other powers, including India.

The event will also feature a panel moderated by Washington-based foreign policy columnist Seema Sirohi. Harvard historian Caroline Elkins, former U.S. Ambassador Nina Hachigian and USC writer in residence Viet Thanh Nguyen will join the discussion.
