WASHINGTON, DC– Federal investigators are examining suspicious mail sent to congressional offices and state election officials across the country, after US Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi and Pramila Jayapal reported receiving similar packages.

Krishnamoorthi’s district office in Schaumburg, Illinois, received a suspicious package on October 17. The package contained unknown substances, and local emergency responders and federal law enforcement personnel removed it safely.

In a social media post, Krishnamoorthi thanked the Schaumburg Fire Department, US Postal Inspection Service, Capitol Police and other federal agencies for their response. He said the package resembled others sent to congressional offices nationwide and added, “It’s been a long week.”

Jayapal also reported receiving a suspicious package. In her post on X, she said it was similar to those sent to other lawmakers and election officials.

The FBI and US Postal Inspection Service are jointly investigating the mailings, some of which contained unidentified substances, CBS News reported. Authorities have confirmed they are tracking suspicious mail reports across multiple jurisdictions.
