The Rabab Takes Center Stage In Chicago Artist Sufiro’s Single

CHICAGO, IL – Chicago-based artist Sufiro has released her debut single, “Alchemy,” blending Sufi musical heritage with contemporary alt-pop and rock.

Released August 21, the song is built around the rabab, an instrument with more than 2,000 years of history in the Sufi musical tradition. Sufiro, who was raised in that tradition, combines the traditional instrument with modern production on the track.

“Alchemy” centers on healing, self-improvement and the process of becoming a better version of oneself. The song reflects on letting go of control and allowing faith to replace fear.

“Alchemy is my whole healing journey in one song. It’s about letting go of the control thing, trusting something bigger than me, and letting faith lead instead of fear,” Sufiro said.

The track is categorized as alt-pop, alternative and global, with a tempo of 152 beats per minute and a key of D-sharp minor. Its sound combines the rabab with contemporary rock and pop elements.

“Alchemy” was written by Harawaroop Chugh and produced by Sehajpreet Singh. Gabriel Sorrentino plays drums, Matt Laurita plays guitar and Gurtêj plays rabab. The song is released through Two Biquitous Music, or 2BM, a New York-based music company founded by 22-year-old Sehaj Singh.

Singh said 2BM was established to bring music and cultural influences from around the world into mainstream music. “Alchemy” is the company’s first artist release.

The company said Sufiro’s songwriting also focuses on wellness and self-improvement, with “Alchemy” serving as an introduction to her sound and musical direction.
