Tragic Drowning Claims Life Of Father At Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD, SC — Saumen Kundu, a 49-year-old father from Georgia, tragically lost his life on July 24 after drowning at a beach in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island.

According to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading the investigation.

Authorities report that Kundu and his son were caught in a powerful rip current while swimming. Nearby beachgoers, hearing their calls for help, immediately entered the water to assist.

Emergency personnel from Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue and Shore Beach Services arrived swiftly and helped bring all individuals back to shore.

Despite rapid lifesaving efforts at the scene, Kundu was pronounced dead.

The family is now facing a difficult time, grappling with their sudden loss and financial challenges.
