US Rejects Politico Report That India Ties Could Sour Because Of Canada

NEW DELHI (IANS) – Stating that ambassador Eric Garcetti is working hard every day to deepen the partnership between India and the US, the American embassy on October 5 denied reports of the envoy saying that bilateral ties will be hit due to New Delhi’s diplomatic row with Canada.

The clarification came after a ‘Politico’ report, which said Garcetti told his in-country team that relations between India and the US “could get worse for a time”, because of India’s diplomatic spat with Canada.

“Ambassador Garcetti is working hard every day to deepen the partnership between the people and governments of the US and India,” a statement by the US embassy said.

“As his personal engagement and public schedule demonstrates, Ambassador Garcetti and the US Mission to India are working every day to advance the important, strategic, and consequential partnership we have with India,” the statement added.

Quoting an unnamed State Department official, the Politico report also claimed that Garcetti told his team that “the US may need to reduce its contacts with Indian officials for an undefined period of time”.

The report coincided with India asking Canada to reduce the number of its diplomats posted in India amid a diplomatic row between the two nations over the killing of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was designated as a terrorist by India in 2020.

  • If it is true, that would be blackmailing the country. US should realize that Canada has been harboring terrorists whose sole aim is for secession from India through violent means. US should remember that they went after OBL in a third party country. If India did i, per haps it’s for the same reason. However, India should make its responses through diplomatic means and not be boorish and uncouth like how Canada did it to India. We need aUS to stand up against the Chinese hegemony.

    • Khalistanis are active in US, UK, Australia and Canada. And Pakistan.
Ask yourself why? Why not in any other western country.

This could be the same reasons as Osama bin Laden employed by the same nations against Russia that went sour.

Khalistanis were funded and trained by Pakistan, the country that raped, tortured, converted and killed Sikhs forcing them to flee to India during partition; even after choosing to stay put in both countries.

And Pakistan was funded by USA, UK and Canada and possibly Australia.

Bad decisions are coming home to roost

  • No country in the west can afford to break relations with India now. They need the growing markets of India and the growing labor of India.

India can now survive without them and the middle east. Thanks to Russian oil and the decision to not take sides in the Ukraine-Russian war. Much appreciated by Russia.

USA interests would be hurt if India is forced to put QUAD on hold and India opens up completely to Russia and Iran.

  • Garcetti is the wrong man for the job. USA should have sent a seasoned diplomat and not a loyal woke Democrat being given a cushy job and title.

  • I have met Garcetti and he is a good man. He had invited several religious leaders for a Breakfast and prayer meeting at his offical residence in Los Angeles, California, when he was Mayor of Los Angeles. Recently, after becoming Ambassador to India, he visited several different religious places of worship – Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Zarathushti (Parsi), Muslim, Jain, etc., and complemented India for its religious plurality and respect for all religions. Unverified news reports like fake news should not be relied on. Fake news can be deliberately spread by India haters to create enmity between nations.
