WASHINGTON, DC – Vice President J.D. Vance has indicated he may not run for president in 2028, citing family considerations and his wife Usha Vance’s reservations about politics, even as he remains widely viewed as a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination.

Speaking at a CBS News town hall in Flat Rock, Michigan, Vance said he had not decided whether to seek the White House after President Donald Trump’s second term and would consider his political future only after the November midterm elections.

Asked whether there was a possibility he would not run in 2028, Vance replied, “Of course there’s a chance.”

He cited the demands of raising four young children and his wife’s preferences as factors in the decision.

“Yeah, man, we’ve got four little kids. My wife has never loved politics. She loves public service,” Vance said.

Vance said he tends to put off major life decisions and rejected the assumption that his position as vice president made a presidential campaign inevitable.

“The way that I think about life, big life decisions, my wife will tell you this, is I’m a procrastinator. I hate thinking about it,” he said.

He said his immediate priority was helping Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections and that he would revisit the question of a presidential run afterward. He also indicated that he and his wife had not begun serious discussions about the prospect, reiterating that they would consider it after the midterms.

Vance’s comments came during a broader discussion of the economy, immigration, the Iran war, technology and the Trump administration’s political challenges. During the town hall, he also urged Michigan voters to support Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections, which will help determine control of Congress.

Vance rose to national prominence through his memoir ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ before entering electoral politics. (IANS)
