Vance Fights Back: Indian Wife, Son Named Vivek Don’t Fit White Identity Narrative

NEW YORK, NY – Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance strongly defended his wife, Usha, against a wave of white supremacist attacks that have surfaced since his nomination as Donald Trump’s running mate last month.

On August 11, speaking on ABC News’s “This Week,” Vance expressed his admiration for his wife and criticized those targeting her.

He said, “Look, my attitude to these people attacking my wife is, she’s beautiful, she’s smart. What kind of man marries Usha? A very smart man and a very lucky man, importantly,” Vance stated during the interview. “And my view is, look, if these guys want to attack me or attack my views, my policy views, my personality, come after me. But don’t attack my wife. She’s out of your league.”

These comments came in response to recent attacks from white supremacist Nick Fuentes, who criticized Vance and his wife for her Indian heritage. Last month, Fuentes questioned Vance’s commitment to “white identity” because of his interracial marriage and the name of their child, Vivek.

“Who is this guy, really? Do we really expect that the guy who has an Indian wife and named their kid Vivek is going to support white identity?” Fuentes said.

During the interview, “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl highlighted Fuentes’ 2022 dinner with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Vance dismissed any association between Trump and Fuentes, stating, “I’m not at all worried about Donald Trump,” he said. “I’m worried sometimes about these ridiculous attacks. But again, this is what you sign up for when you come into politics. I wish people would keep it focused on me, but whatever. They’re going to say what they’re going to say. My wife’s tough enough to handle it, and that’s a good thing.”

Trump talks with white nationalist Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago dinner

“Former President Trump dined and conversed with white nationalist Nick Fuentes and rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Tuesday night, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Why it matters: Trump’s direct engagement with a man labeled a “white supremacist” by the Justice Department, one week after declaring his 2024 candidacy, is likely to draw renewed outrage over the former president’s embrace of extremists.
Fuentes, who frequently promotes racist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, had been spotted with Ye at Mar-a-Lago, but reports erroneously suggested he did not have dinner with the former president.“

If white supremacists support Trump, it’s easy to figure out why they have problem with Vance being married to an Indian woman. After all, Vance is Trump’s running mate. I basically have two questions. One, why did Vance decide to be the running mate of a person who is comfortable associating with white supremacists? Two, why are some Indian Americans supportive of Trump who associates with white supremacists?
