NEW YORK, NY (ANI) – Preparations are underway at Times Square for International Yoga Day, with the aim of encouraging more people to participate in the event.

Douglass Stewart, the co-founder of Yoga in Times Square, emphasized the roots of yoga in India and how Western culture has embraced its principles. The event has been organized at Times Square for the past 20 years, and around 8,000 people are expected to attend this year.

Stewart highlighted the ongoing preparations, including the placement of barricades and the setup of the sponsors’ area. Registrations are being sent out, and the event will feature hourly classes starting from 7:30 am until sunset, with a focus on sun salutations and various poses.

Times Square Alliance’s Vice President of Communications, TJ Witham, explained the extensive planning efforts undertaken to ensure a successful event. They have set up multiple stages to ensure that the voice of the main teacher can reach the entire Square.

Witham mentioned that around 8,000 people have already registered, with more expected before the event. The significance of June 21 and its connection to yoga have been celebrated in Times Square for the past 20 years, aligning with the International Day of Yoga established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
