Gov. Newsom Appoints Sushma Bhatia To Bay Area Water Quality Board

SACRAMENTO, CA – Cupertino resident Sushma Bhatia has been appointed to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to an announcement from the Governor’s office.

Bhatia currently serves as Global Business and Applied AI Director at Google. Her appointment requires Senate confirmation, and the position carries compensation of $250 per diem.

Before joining Google, Bhatia held several strategy and consulting roles at Accenture and also co-founded the firm Dreeya. She previously worked at the San Francisco Department of the Environment for a decade, including as Toxics Reduction Program Manager and Coordinator.

Bhatia earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. She also holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
