Sourav Ganguly Turns 54 With ICC Hall Of Fame Honor, Biopic First Look Unveiled
MUMBAI – Former India captain Sourav Ganguly celebrated his 54th birthday on July 8 with two major milestones: recognition as the newest inductee into the ICC Hall of Fame and the unveiling of the first look of his upcoming biopic, ‘DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story.’
Ganguly called his induction into the ICC Hall of Fame a “huge honour,” saying it was special to join some of cricket’s greatest names. He is set to become the 12th Indian overall and the 10th Indian men’s cricketer to receive the sport’s highest individual recognition.
The International Cricket Council is expected to formally announce the induction on July 11 at the conclusion of its annual conference in Edinburgh.
One of the finest ODI batters of his generation, Ganguly scored 11,363 runs in 311 one-day internationals with 22 centuries, claimed 132 wickets, and amassed 7,212 runs in 113 Tests.
Affectionately known as the ‘God of the Off Side,’ Ganguly took over India’s captaincy in 2000 during the match-fixing crisis and transformed the team’s outlook with an aggressive, fearless approach. Under his leadership, India won the 2002 NatWest Trophy, shared the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, reached the 2003 Cricket World Cup final, and secured a historic Test series victory in Pakistan in 2004. His tenure also featured India’s memorable 2001 Test win over Australia at Eden Gardens.
After retiring, Ganguly served as president of the BCCI during the Covid-19 pandemic and currently heads the Cricket Association of Bengal while serving as Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals.
Adding to the celebrations, National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao unveiled the first poster of ‘DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story,’ scheduled for release on May 14 next year. The poster recreates Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony after India’s dramatic 2002 NatWest Trophy triumph, one of the defining images of Indian cricket. (IANS)
