Maha Kumbh: Mamta Kulkarni Becomes A Sadhvi
PRAYAGRAJ (ANI)– Former Bollywood actor Mamta Kulkarni performed the ‘pind daan’ ritual at Sangam Ghat here on January 23 as part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh celebrations.
Speaking about the ritual, Kulkarni said, “This was the order of Mahadev, Maha Kaali. This was the order of my Guru. They chose this day. I didn’t do anything.”
Earlier in the day, Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada, Laxmi Narayan, announced that Mamta Kulkarni had embarked on a spiritual journey and been named the Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhada. She was given the title Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri through traditional rituals.
“She has been in touch with Kinnar Akhada and me for the past one and a half years. She is allowed to perform the character of any devotional figure if she wishes, as we do not prohibit anyone from expressing their art,” said Laxmi Narayan about future acting assignments.
Mamta Kulkarni rose to fame in the 1990s with her roles in popular films such as Karan Arjun and Baazi, where she starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan. However, she stepped away from Bollywood in the early 2000s, moved abroad, and embraced a life away from the spotlight.
