Mamta Kulkarni Speaks About Her Tumultuous Life

MUMBAI (ANI) – Actress Mamta Kulkarni recently opened up about returning to Mumbai after 25 years and her past association with Vicky Goswami, whose links to international drug trafficking remain under scrutiny by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Clarifying her return, Kulkarni stated, “I have not come back for Bollywood, and I am not planning to make a return as an actress.”

Addressing her connection with Vicky Goswami, she said, “I have no connection with the drug world as I never met those people. Yes, I got connected with Vicky Goswami… In 1996, my spiritual journey began, and a guru came into my life during that time.”

Mamta Kulkarni recounted that Goswami contacted her while serving time in a Dubai jail. “Vicky called me when he was in jail in Dubai and asked me to visit him. I met him and spent 12 years [supporting him]… I delved deeply into meditation, prayer, and spiritual practices. By the time he was released in 2012, all my desires—whether for love or marriage—had vanished. I had already decided I wouldn’t return to India until he came out. When he did, he went to Kenya, and I traveled to India for the Kumbh Mela in 2012-2013 before returning to Dubai.”

Kulkarni and Goswami’s names were linked to a major drug haul case in 2017. The Thane Police issued a non-bailable warrant against the duo after their alleged involvement surfaced in a chargesheet. Goswami and three associates—Ibrahim and Baktash Akasha, along with Gulam Hussein—were extradited from Kenya to the U.S. in January 2017 following a 2014 sting operation by the U.S. DEA. The operation involved agents posing as Colombian drug dealers.

Mamta Kulkarni distanced herself from Goswami’s legal troubles, stating, “Vicky went back to Kenya, and I visited him once or twice before returning to Dubai. He was already accused in Kenya, and I was not with him during that time. From 2016 to 2024, I have been on my own spiritual path. I am not in touch with him anymore; our last contact was in 2016.”

Mamta Kulkarni rose to stardom in the 1990s with memorable performances in hits like Karan Arjun and Baazi. She worked alongside Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
