WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) unveiled plans on November 13 to introduce legislation aimed at phasing out the H-1B visa program, with the ultimate goal of eliminating it entirely.

Data shows that nearly 70 percent of all H-1B visa holders are Indian nationals, and will be the demographic most affected by Greene’s proposal.

In a video shared on the social platform X, Greene outlined her reasoning: “The legislation will take away the pathway to citizenship, forcing visa-holders to return home when their visa expires. It will restore the original intent of the visa: for it to be temporary.” She added, “People should not be allowed to come and live here forever. We thank them for their expertise, but we also wish them well so they may return to their own country.”

Greene also criticized the program itself, calling it “riddled with fraud and abuse” and claiming it had been “displacing Americans for decades.”

Greene said her bill would target the program aggressively, though it would maintain a limited exemption for medical professionals. Up to 10,000 H-1B visas could be issued annually for healthcare roles, but even that provision could be gradually phased out over a decade.

Her proposal comes just days after President Trump defended bringing foreign workers into the United States and the need to import talent.

In her video, Greene described the U.S. workforce as “the most talented people in the world.” The comments are part of her ongoing criticism of the White House and Republican leadership, which she has recently targeted over rising health care costs and the Epstein files.

  • It may sound unpleasant to aspiring H1B people but gets to the bottom of the issue!

  • Excellent idea from MTG. High time, we regulate the H1B process. For too long, H1B holders thought that the visa is the fiirst step towards permanent residence in the country, forgetting that it is a temporary visa and any attempt to cahange it should be done from their native country, not staying here.

  • MTG Good job, Eliminate H-1B completely, it will stop exploitation of Indian works, and create more job oppertunities for our American workers. Well done MTG.
