Air India Expands Canada Operations

TORONTO – Air India has announced an expansion of its Canada operations for the 2026-27 winter season, including the launch of a new seasonal non-stop service between Toronto and Mumbai and the deployment of its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on Toronto-Delhi flights.

The airline began operating the Boeing 787-9 on the Toronto-Delhi route on August 1. During the winter schedule, seven of the 10 weekly Toronto-Delhi flights will be operated with the new aircraft. The remaining three weekly flights, currently operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, are scheduled to transition to the Boeing 787-9 beginning in January 2027 as additional aircraft join the fleet.

Air India said that from January 2027, all of its flights to and from Toronto will be operated with either new or upgraded cabin interiors.

The airline will also introduce a seasonal non-stop Toronto-Mumbai service operating three times a week from October 25, 2026, through March 26, 2027. Air India said it will be the only airline operating direct flights between the two cities during the winter season.

The Toronto-Mumbai route will be served by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with upgraded cabins, including eight First Class suites, 40 Business Class flat-bed seats, and 280 Economy seats. The aircraft will also offer onboard WiFi.

With the additional service, Air India said it will increase capacity between Canada and India by about 4,400 seats per month. The airline also expects premium seating capacity from Toronto to increase by 71% during the winter season.

During the 2026-27 winter schedule, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights between Canada and India, including 10 weekly flights between Toronto and Delhi, three weekly flights between Toronto and Mumbai, and seven weekly flights between Vancouver and Delhi.
