ATLANTA, GA – Ashwin Ramaswami, the Gen Z Indian American candidate running for a seat in Georgia’s state senate, has won the Democratic primary. “In November, I’ll face Republican Senator Shawn Still – who was indicted alongside Donald Trump for being a fake elector in 2020. It’s the most flippable State Senate seat in Georgia,” Ramaswami, posted on social media.

Ramaswami will be the legally required age of 25 by November’s general election.

Ramaswami will now take on GOP incumbent Shawn Still, who was indicted last year alongside former President Donald Trump for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. When the indictment happened, Ramaswami has told the media, he decided to quit his job and run for office.

He lives with his parents in Johns Creek and while running his campaign graduated Georgetown Law School this week. With this result, he plans to defer taking his bar exam.

Ramaswami’s parents immigrated to the US from Tamil Nadu in 1990.
