LOS ANGELES, CA– Echo Lake Entertainment has signed author Ashok Rajamani for representation across all areas, the company announced this week. Known for his searing and deeply personal memoir ‘The Day My Brain Exploded: A True Story’, Rajamani’s story is now in development as a feature film by the producers behind the Oscar-winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
Originally published to critical acclaim, ‘The Day My Brain Exploded’ recounts Rajamani’s harrowing recovery from a near-fatal brain hemorrhage at the age of 25. The memoir blends dark humor with themes of disability, racial identity, and the complexities of the immigrant experience.
Amy Schiffman, a partner at Echo Lake and a former executive at Gersh and William Morris Endeavor, will lead Rajamani’s representation. “My colleague, Kim Yau, and I are inspired by Ashok’s tale of resilience and recovery,” Schiffman said. “His book also highlights his family’s immigrant experience in America. At a time when cultural understanding is more important than ever, Ashok’s voice is both vital and timely.”
Rajamani welcomed the partnership, calling it “a dream team.” He praised Echo Lake’s appreciation for his perspective as a first-generation Indian American and a disabled artist. “I’m thrilled to be working with people who truly understand my voice,” he said. “I’m excited to share my stories with audiences around the world.”
In addition to his memoir, Rajamani has built a wide-ranging body of work. His recent projects include ‘Imagine Carnivalesque’, a volume of cultural criticism, and ‘If These Saris Could Talk’, an audio monologue performed by Zehra Naqvi.
Rajamani is also developing a new project titled ‘Survivor Factory’, based on his digital publication that centers real-life stories of endurance. His forthcoming book, ‘Circus in Color: A Brown Man’s Guide to the Greatest Show on Earth’, will examine the performance of race in American culture through a postmodern lens.
